The second largest park in the country and one of the truly wilderness areas of Malawi, representative of a true Southern African Savannah, Kasungu National Park is a place to visit. The park is part of Malawi-Zambia Transfrontier Conservation Areas. The park is one of the easiest to reach from Lilongwe the capital city. Lying only 60 kms from the M1 road, that runs from Southern to Northern parts of Malawi. Visitors to the park can see elephant, hippopotamus, buffalo, greater kudu, hartebeest, sable, impala, puku, bushbuck, duiker, zebra and roan antelope. Other animal species that can be seen include lion, leopard, civet, serval cat, genet, and bush baby. The Park has over 300 species of birds which include a variety of waterbirds such as the palearctic migrant White Stork. and woodland birds such as the Shelley’s Sunbird.This makes it a good destination for bird watchers. A few fish species of barbs and redbreast tilapia occur in the Lifupa dam and streams of the park.

Kasungu National Park is a national park in Malawi. It is located west of Kasungu, about 175 km north of Lilongwe, extending along the Zambian border. Kasungu National Park, established in 1970, is the second-largest in Malawi at 2,316 square kilometres (894 sq mi), with an elevation of approximately 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) above sea level on average. It is located in the Central Region approximately 165 km (103 mi) north of Lilongwe. Most years the park is closed during March, during the wet season. The park is warm from the months of September to May and cooler from June to August. During the summer months a large variety of birds migrate to the park and bird watching is common between June and September.
